The 20th century had undeniably paved way for a number of chosen inventions we Indians can take pride in, one of which is an inescapable family gatherer of a movie called Hum Sath Sath Hain – We Stand United. On 5th November 1999, when Rajshri came out with this multistarrer with some of the biggest names in the business, theaters all over the country shaped into family drawing rooms. Yes, our cinematic sensibilities have changed manifold but there is something about this sanctimonious Barjatya offering that keeps demanding your attention. You’ve laughed with it and you’ve laughed at it but you do love it, don’t you?
Anyway, the ensemble that successfully managed to highlight each one of its characters has now got us thinking what are they all upto? Yes, we’re constantly aware of Salman Khan’s whereabouts and on that note even Alok Nath’s, but since the film celebrates almost two decades of its release, it’s time we made you meet everybody who remained a part of this big screen extravaganza. Presenting the cast of Hum Sath Sath Hain: Then & Now.

Plot[edit]
The plot revolves around the Chaturvedi Family, the father,Ramkishan Chaturvedi (Alok Nath), a rich businessman, and his second wife Mamta Chaturvedi (Reema Lagoo). Ramkishan has 4 children: Vivek(Mohnish Behl), Prem(Salman Khan), Vinod(Saif Ali Khan) and Sangeeta(Neelam Kothari). The first half explores the love lives of each of the three sons : Vivek with Sadhna(Tabu), the daughter of his father's business associate, Prem with Preeti (Sonali Bendre), the daughter of a family friend and Vinod with Sapna(Karisma Kapoor).
The story takes a bitter turn when Sangita's brother-in-law cheats her husband, Anand(Mahesh Thakur) from the inheritance and his share in the family business. This makes Mamta very paranoid and makes her question her husband's decision to make Vivek, her step son, the head of their family business. She demands that Ramkishan divide the business equally between all the sons instead of putting Vivek in charge. Ramkishan refuses because he thinks this will divide the family. Vivek is heartbroken when he finds out but decides to diffuse the situation by telling his mother that he will move back to their ancestral village Rampur to take care of the new factory that they had recently set up there. In his place he asks his father to put Prem in charge of the family empire. His wife, Sadhna supports his decision. Vivek and Sadhna move to Rampur. Prem flat out refuses to replace his brother as the head of the family. But Vivek convinces him to go along with the plan in the interest of preventing further conflict within the family.
Sangita's brother in law eventually realizes that he made a huge mistake in cheating his brother and breaking up his family. This makes Mamta realize her mistake too and she reunites with Vivek.

Casting[edit]
Anil Kapoor and Rishi Kapoor were the initial choices for Mohnish Behl's role. Rishi Kapoor was also offered Neelam's husband's role but declined it. Later the role went to Mahesh Thakur.Madhuri Dixit was the first choice for Tabu's role. Aishwarya Rai was offered a role in this film but wasn't able to fulfill it.[citation needed]
Music[edit]
The Music was composed Raamlaxman, who teamed up with Sooraj Barjatya for the third time. The soundtrack features seven songs. It features playback singers Kumar Sanu (as Prem), Alka Yagnik (as Preeti), Kavita Krishnamurthy (as Sapna) Udit Narayan (as Vinod), Anuradha Paudwal (as Sadhna), Hariharan (as Vivek) and Sonu Nigam (as Anwar). News18 claimed that the track 'A B C D' was plagiarised from the spanish singer,Jeanette's song Porque Te Vas from 1974.[7] Savera R Someshwar of Rediff said that '.It is definitely time for Barjatya to look out for a new music director. Even the lyrics -- barring Maare hidwa ma naache mor and Mayya Yashoda -- are banal..'.[8]
